School of Education
Video Recording and editing
My work in the School of Education involves establishing and delivering the inaugural Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership (PDEL) 2015/16. The PDEL offers a blended model of engagement and is the first programme from the School of Education to do so. I wanted to enhance the quality of this programme and related aspects, which required some digital up skilling on my part.
Module 4 of the PDEL addresses skills associated with classroom observation/feedback and educational coaching/mentoring. The use of online material, including video, was most beneficial to course participants and in turn assisted in highlighting the benefits of the course to a wider audience. I appreciated the opportunity to learn more about the use of video recording and editing. Renewed attention is being given to E-portfolio and learning in this area which could assist in both implementing and shaping CPD policy both here in UCC and with other institutions involved in the project. Opportunities here would include capturing student feedback during and subsequent to completion of course materials, possible use of video to assess skills (ie providing teacher feedback) and exploration of how portfolios can be shared across educational settings as teachers advance their learning in various settings and in various modes.
